How to convert an image to JPG, PNG or WEBP
- Upload an image using the upload box above.
- Choose the format you need: JPG / JPEG, WEBP or PNG.
- Press Convert Format Now.
- Check the preview and the new size, then download the file.
Which format should I pick?
- JPG / JPEG is best for photographs and is what most forms and portals ask for. It does not support transparency, so transparent areas become white.
- PNG keeps every pixel exactly and supports transparency. It is good for logos, screenshots and signatures with a clear background, but photos in PNG are usually much larger.
- WEBP usually gives smaller files than JPG at similar quality and also supports transparency. Most modern browsers and apps open it, but some older software and some upload forms do not accept it.
What happens to quality
Converting to PNG does not lose quality. Converting to JPG or WEBP is lossy: the tool uses a high quality setting (92% for JPG and 88% for WEBP), so differences are usually hard to see, but the file is recompressed. Converting a JPG to PNG makes the file bigger without making the picture better, because the detail already lost in the JPG does not come back.
Common reasons to convert
- A portal says "only JPG or JPEG allowed" and your photo is PNG or WEBP.
- You saved an image from the web as WEBP and an app will not open it.
- You need a transparent PNG for a document or design.
- You want a smaller file for a website or email.
If a portal also limits the file size, convert first, then use the image compressor.
Limits to know about
- The tool can only open image types your browser can show. Some iPhone HEIC photos and some raw camera files will not open. Export them as JPG from your phone's photo app first.
- If your browser cannot create WEBP, it may save a PNG instead. The tool tells you when this happens.
- One image is converted at a time, and animated images keep only their first frame.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The conversion happens in your browser and the image is not sent to our servers. See the privacy policy.
Frequently asked questions
Will the picture size in pixels change?
No. The width and height stay the same. Use the image resizer if you need different dimensions.
Why did my transparent PNG get a white background?
JPG cannot store transparency, so the tool fills those areas with white. Choose PNG or WEBP to keep transparency.
Why is the PNG so much larger than my JPG?
PNG stores pixels without discarding detail, which suits graphics but makes photos large. Use JPG or WEBP for photographs.
